The power of a smile filled with straight white teeth is undeniable. A smile of this kind exudes confidence and vitality that crooked, yellowed, and misshapen teeth just can’t compete with. At Healthy Smile Dental, Harpreet Brar, DDS, understands the importance of a winning smile, which is why she offers porcelain veneers to her patients in Turlock, California. To explore veneers, call the office or use the online scheduling tool to book an appointment.
Veneers are wafer-thin shells made out of porcelain and ceramic that Dr. Brar places over the fronts of your teeth. The porcelain looks, for all intents and purposes, just like your natural teeth because of its opaque quality that mimics your natural enamel. Dr. Brar uses Empress® veneers because they also contain heat-pressed glass ceramic for strength. These veneers hold up extraordinarily well, especially when it comes to resisting stains.
Veneers correct a host of cosmetic issues in your teeth, including:
As you can see by this list, veneers are not simply tools to give you whiter teeth. Because they cover up your old teeth, they can correct minor imperfections, cover up spaces, and even lengthen your teeth, if they’re severely worn down.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Brar, she sits down with you to discuss your goals and determines whether veneers are a good option. Once the decision is made, the next step is preparing your teeth for the new laminates. To do this, she removes some of your enamel — about a half a millimeter — in order to make room for the veneers. (It’s important to note that when Dr. Brar removes your enamel, this process is irreversible as your teeth won’t grow new enamel.)
Once she removes the enamel, she takes impressions of your teeth, which she sends to the Empress lab for custom manufacturing, along with the instructions for color.
When your new veneers come in, you return to her office so that she can bond them to your teeth. To do this, Dr. Brar uses a special cement that holds the veneers firmly in place. Afterward, she makes any necessary tweaks to ensure that you leave with a mouth full of straight white teeth.
A large part of the answer to this question depends upon the care you give your new veneers at home. If you properly brush and protect them, they should last for many years to come. If your veneers begin to wear down or come loose down the road, you simply return to Dr. Brar to get fitted for new ones.
